How do you know if someone is just "feeling blue" versus someone who's depressed?

Usually depression starts with a series of "feeling blue," then eventually declining into full depression.  As much as people don't want to admit, counseling helps the "blue" feeling and can help prevent full out depression.

Depression affects your ability to eat, sleep or even have a normal life... And the spells are harder to shake off, they seem to stay, and even the things that cheer you up and give you enjoyment can't lift your spirits.
